THANKS to Those Who Came: We Made Our Relief Fund Grow

MicrophoneIt takes a lot to put together one of these events.  Nearly a hundred volunteers pull together a day-long event that means so much to the hurricane relief workers along the entire Gulf Coast.  We are putting together the final numbers for the event and will post them here as soon as they are official!  Until then, check out the pictures!

This year's event featured great carnival-style games for the kids, but the real winner was the food, drinks and incredible music that was piped throughout the party grounds at the Zendah Grotto.  A special thanks to Yuengling for their help with the beer.  It wouldn't have been a party without you!  Thank you, thank you, thank you!

There were some great food highlights, too.  Notably: the chili cookoff and the ribs.

The chili cook-off pitted several participating krewes against each other in the race to burn our bellies the best.  Everyone enjoyed sampling the various tastes, and both the people and the judges presented their favorites in an award session in between bands.  Here are the winners:

Judges Choice:
1st: Bobbie C. Davis
2nd: Columbus
3rd: Cigar City
Honorable Mention: Pair O' Dice

People's Choice:
1st: Bobbie C. Davis
2nd: Columbus
3rd: Thieves
Honorable Mention: Agustinas

Then, of course there were the ribs--donated so graciously by The Rack!.  Mmmmmmmmmmmmm!  In addition to great burgers and dogs, the boys from F-Troop served up some of the tangiest, tastiest, fall-off-the-bone ribs you ever tasted.  It was the mid-afternoon meal between the chili and the burgers!  Thanks to everyone from F-Troop (and anyone else that pitched in) for their great performance in the culinary arts.  And remember--they cooked kuz they kare!

About Angel Flight Southeast:
Delivering the Supplies

MicrophoneThe most important part of Krewes Kare is our relationship with Angel Flight Southeast (AFSE) and the generous pilots who donate their time and fuel to make the delivery of relief supplies a reality.   You may have already heard of them.  They've made a name for themselves flying terminally ill children to out-of-state hospitals and other locations without asking the parents for a dime.  Now we've teamed up with them to make sure that relief workers in the Southeast have the tools and other supplies they need to help storm-devastated communities get back on their feet.  Our formula is simple:  relief workers in a hurricane disaster area need something?  We buy, and then AFSE flies.  Without this amazing dedication from the pilots involved, we would never be able to make such a difference.

Sponsors & Exhibitors- We Couldn't Have Done it Without You!

This was our first year doing an expo AND a party to raise funds for the hurricane relief effort along the Gulf Coast. We want to thank our exhibitors and sponsors for helping make this a good start to what we hope will be come a bigger and better event as the years go by.  As Krewes Kare President Yvonne Painton says: "Our mojo is working. So far, every year we hold this party we don't have a hurricane."
